Green tuned cars are cars that have been tuned to use initial or deeper alternative propulsion.

Types of green tunning includes:

*Electric vehicle conversion. An electric vehicle conversion is the modification of a conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) driven vehicle to battery electric propulsion, creating a battery electric vehicle. In some cases the vehicle may be built by the converter, or assembled from a kit car. In some countries, the user can choose to buy a converted vehicle of any model in the automaker dealerships only paying the cost of the batteries and motor, with no installation costs (it is called preconversion or previous conversion).
*Hybridization: change to a hybrid electric vehicle. One can use an aftermarket kit for the powertrain or use a hybrid adapter trailer.
*Pluginization of hybrid cars. A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is a hybrid which has additional battery capacity and the ability to be recharged from an external electrical outlet. In addition, modifications are made to the vehicle's control software. The vehicle can be used for short trips of moderate speed without needing the internal combustion engine (ICE) component of the vehicle, thereby saving fuel costs. In this mode of operation the vehicle operates as a pure battery electric vehicle with a weight penalty (the ICE). The long range and additional power of the ICE power train is available when needed.
* Extension: adding a baset trailer to extend the range of a battery electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

This initiative has been merged with the Bootstrap Community Manual project.

Discussion Group

Description
The Bootstrap Network's tagline is: the open source community for bootstrappers. This initiative is about the "open source" aspect. Specifically, we seek to codify and continually improve our understanding of what open source means for bootstrap and how it works in our community.

A recent discussion on the yahoo group highlighted that there is a vast sea of opinion about what open source means. We get some clarity when we separate the "spirit" of open source versus a specific implmentation of it. Rather than try to force-fit bootstrap into some idealistic notion of "open source," we evolve our thinking, using ideas that work and discarding those that do not.

As with all things bootstrap, coming to "open source" has been more a result of necessity and evolution rather than a preconceived plan to employ open source principles. While certain bootstrappers like Kevin and Chris Garrigues came to the idea early, it took a little while for Bijoy to undertsand and warm to it. Bootstrap has always been about open communication, sharing and support - all of which can be described as "open source." We went further down this path when Bijoy brought up the idea of charging fees. Through a heated discusion that followed on the yahoo group, we came to the notion that members could contribute a negotiated service in lieu of fees. This has since evolved to the idea of contributing one's product or service to the group.

One common misconception about open source is that it is a free-for-all. Nothing could be further from the truth! There are rules for engagement, ways that projects and initiatives come to life and these are all carefully and methodically nurtured and managed.
They can be replaced by recharged ones and are sized to standard measures. Most small to midsized passenger vehicles would require 15 to 20 kW for unlimited freeway travel as long as fuel were available. Larger vehicles could require 30 kW or more of power depending on how heavy and/or un-aerodynamic they happen to be.
They can be also used with buses and bus companies can store recharged batteries in route strategic points.

Structure
Community Goals
Defines the role of the 'Bootstrap Repository', the desired role/experience of members, the desired role of the contributors, and the desired implementation of the moderation function. These goals define the required function of the organization and ultimately are responsible for the design of the Bootstrap Repository.

Bootstrapping
Sets forth the principles of Bootstrapping as interpretted by the organization

Repository Architecture
This will be the overview of all the tools and shared experiences we have available - ie, yahoo group, wiki, breakouts, bootboard, etc. By definition this will change every time a new service is added or updated.

Community
All community interaction and rules should be directly related to the structure of the repository. These will be as dynamic as the repository itself.

Design and Change
Bootstrap Committee
Role: The Bootstrap committee will define both the goals of the community, as well as the interpretation of bootstrapping principles as they relate to the design of the community. The Bootstrap community will also monitor the implementation efforts of other committees for compliance to these goals and principles.

Members: Invited by committee, nominated/elected by committee/community. (actual rules to be defined by committee)

Meeting Frequency/Purpose: The group will meet initially to outline a charter. The committee may only need to meet 1-2 times per year to review the community goals and bootstrapping principles as relevant to the community. The committee will also review the status of the community, their compliance to these goals and principles, and any changes required (this would be required in the case that the scope of the change is beyond community self-moderation).

Information Committee
Role: The Information Committee will define the types of knoweldge and tools that can be found within the Bootstrap Group - the 'Repository'. They will actively work to architect these groups so that they meet the goals laid forth by the Bootstrap Committee, are relavent to member needs, and work together efficiently.

Members: Volunteers heading up bootstrap initiatives, a representive from Bootstrap Committee, and a couple nominated/elected members.

Meeting Frequency/Purpose: The group will meet initially to map out current bootstrap activity (Boot Boards, Boot Rap, Book Club, Sub Groups, the wiki, Bootstrap Student, etc), and then suggest changes and actions in accordance with the community goals. This committee will also be responsible for the review of Business models used within the group as they relate to the community. From there the committee should meet roughly every 1-2 months to review the status of the 'Repository'.

Community Committee
Role: To implement initiatives within the Bootstrap community. May include the forming of sub-committees to implement specific initiatives. These initiatives do not have to be initiated by the Information Committee, but they can be moderated by either the Information Committee or the Bootstrap Committee.

Members: Volunteers heading up bootstrap initiatives, a representative or two from Information committee, nomitated/elected members.

Meeting Frequency/Purpose: The group, and sub-groups will meet as often as required to implement initiatives. The committee is responsible for acquiring resources, and executing process as it relates to implementing initiatives.
Machttp://www.bootstrapaustin.org/index.php?title=Bootstrap%27s_Open_Source_Model&diff=4904Bootstrap's Open Source Model2007-04-12T12:17:40Z
Mac: /* Bootstrappers */

Preamble
As members of the Bootstrap Organization we work jointly to create an environment whereby members of the organization can interact with the community and in turn build their businesses using community experience in the context of bootstrap principles.

We aim to create an open source community for bootstrap entrepreneurs. At the heart of this community lies a repository – a set of tools and shared experiences that allows fellow bootstrappers to learn from the community, build their own business systems, and ultimately focus on innovation within their own enterprise in a manner more powerful than any one member could accomplish by him/herself.

Members, owners of bootstrapped businesses, have limitless access to the ‘Bootstrap Repository’. Members have the ability to find, synthesize, and then incorporate aspects of the ‘Bootstrap Repository’ into their own business systems.

Contributors, either members or third parties, can easily organize, extend, improve and communicate the contents of the ‘Bootstrap Repository’.

Moderation, the control of member usage of and contribution to the ‘Bootstrap Repository’, is implemented through the community as a course of use and contribution.
