The Bootstrap Web Subgroup (aka Web 2.0 Subgroup) is for founders of bootstrap businesses who have an interest in web technology. You don't have to have a web company per se - we all use the web as part of our business. Participation in our monthly meetings and ongoing online conversations is a great way to get and remain knowledgeable about best practices and new technologies. Subgroup leader is Jon Lebkowsky, jonl ~at~ socialwebstrategies dot com.

Membership in the Bootstrap Web Subgroup is free, and joining is easy: Yahoo Group for the Web Subgroup

Tuesday, February 17, 6:30pm at Conjunctured, 1309 E. 7th Street, Austin Speaker: Tim Walker of Hoover's Title: You Can Create a Customer Anywhere: What Web Businesses Can Learn from Hardware Store Owners Doing business on the Web changes everything . . . except when it doesn't. Even though Web businesses start up quickly, transcend geography, and benefit from unprecedented network effects, they still must pursue the same task that Peter Drucker said was at the heart of every sensible business operation: to create a customer. In this talk Tim Walker, a business analyst for Hoover's and a Ph.D. student in history at UT, will compare today's online business culture with older ways of doing business to get you thinking about what HAS changed and what HASN'T -- and how you can profit from knowing the difference.

Tim blogs about management, social media, and other aspects of the business world at hooversbiz.com.
